Darrel Trulson announces run for Chisago County commissioner

Darrel Trulson announced his candidacy this week to run for Chisago County Commissioner. Trulson, a resident in Chisago City, was born and raised in North Branch, Minnesota. He is a local businessman and owner of PenLine Productions, a graphic design and management company. Trulson has also authored over a dozen books for the educational market.
After graduating from North Branch High School in 1978, Darrel moved to Illinois where he attended and graduated from Moody Bible Institute and Trinity University. He then pastored a church in rural Wisconsin, and later became a teacher and school administrator. During that time he was active in his community where he was elected a trustee in the city of Arlington Heights. Trulson eventually returned to Minnesota to be closer to his family and develop his business interests.
When asked why he wants to serve as Commissioner, Trulson responded, “To me, the greatest resource this county has to offer is its people. This is an opportunity for me to give back to the community that has given me so much. I grew up in North Branch, just off of County Road 14. I love this area and have so many good friends and family members here.” Trulson went on to say, “I’m deeply concerned about local jobs and our economy. If elected, I’m going to do everything I can to encourage business growth and promote strong families. I want to see good jobs coming into the county instead of people leaving the area for work.”
“My many years of diverse experience in business and my close connection to this area has given me excellent insight into what is needed to develop the future of this County,” said Trulson. “I have given a great deal of thought to what I offer this community. I bring a solid history of collaborating with various groups to address complicated issues, and I bring a commitment to grow our local business base to attract and keep jobs in Chisago County.
Darrel credits his father, Wally Trulson, for getting him interested in public service. “My Dad was on the school board in North Branch and president of Branch Manufacturing. He taught me that we have a responsibility to be involved and support our communities. When I was a senior in high school, I was elected Student Council president. For me it was my first opportunity to serve and have a positive impact with my fellow students.”
Besides his interest in politics, Trulson is also an avid potter, volunteers at Eagle Brook Church, and enjoys running, biking and spending time talking with his six children and three grandchildren.
